Tom Peghiny of Flight Design U.S.A. had the CTSW on display and flying at the AOPA convention Hartford-Brainard Airport facility. CT stands for composite technology, while SW stands for short wing. The reason for the shorter wing was that many conventional pilots were having difficulty landing the plane, because it was so efficient that it had aThe large instrument panel stretches from one side of the 39 inch wide cockpit to the other, and is divided into three sections, one for flight instruments, one for navigation a third for engine monitoring. tendency to float in ground effect.

Thus the plane was redesigned with a shorter wing to help eliminate the problem and in the process increased it's cruising speed. The CTSW is an all composite side by side seating two place light sport aircraft. It features a standard dual stick and rudder control system with flaps. Ground handling is via a steerable nose wheel.

Power is supplied by the Rotax 912 S 100 HP aircraft engine. The CTSW cruises at 110 knots and has a maximum range of 1,000 miles.

The CTSW is one of only a couple of lightsport aircraft that comes equipped standard with a BRS ballistic parachute.

The CT was the second Lightsport Aircraft to be approved under the LSA program. Currently the CTSW from Flight Design USA has over 20 per cent of the market share for light sport aircraft sales in the U.S.

The plane is sold through a distributor/dealer/training network. There are over 400 flying worldwide.
