FOKKER E-III Eindecker
(ultralight) 3/4 SCALE REPLICA
|
Ron Glover of Stockbridge Georgia was at Sun N
Fun 2005 with his 3/4 scale Airdrome Aeroplanes WW I replica of the
Fokker E-III Eindecker. As a kid Ron saw the movie the "Great Waldo
Pepper," and since that time has wanted to build a WW 1 style
aircraft. His problem was finding a plane that would fit into his
budget. Ron purchased his kit nearly 5 years
ago, after seeing the original proto-type on display at Lakeland.
His intention was to have it up and flying in a year, but a new baby
arriving put a hold on his project.
Over four years with the support of his wife Ron
constructed the kit in his basement. His only other experience prior
to this in building aircraft was building model planes. While he did
not have to buy any special tools to build the craft, he did buy a
compressor and rivet gun to aid in the construction. He estimates
construction time was about 400 hours.
Several unique features that Ron has designed into
his Eindecker include brakes, a custom seat for more comfort, and
some modifications to the aileron control system.
Ron is powering his craft with a Rotax 503 twin
carb, 50 hp engine using a 2.58 -1 B reduction drive. High speed
cruise comes in at around 70 mph, climb 1,000 feet per minute with
stall coming in between 25 and 30 mph. |
