Tampa Bay Aerosports had the Klass Cruise and
Klass Competition two place trikes on display at Sun N Fun. These
trikes are well known in Europe and the former Soviet block
countries, but are new to the U.S. market.
The Klass trikes are produced to exceed industry standards, using
aviation construction technology, in Ukrainian aviation production
plants that are producing parts for
the Antanov jet
transport aircraft.
Features of the Klass series of trikes include, a
full fiberglass fairing, front hydraulic brakes, a full shock
absorber suspension system, and 4 point safety harness restraints.
The trikes are supplied with the X-Wings from the
U.S.S.R. which are approximately 90% dual surface, and have batons
throughout giving the wing tremendous performance and strength.
Power can be supplied by the Rotax 582, Rotax 912,
HKS, or Metro Geo Suzuki aircraft engine conversions.
The units on display were powered by the Metro Geo
Suzuki 1.0L 4 stroke 63 Hp fuel injected engine and the 1.3L 90 HP 4
cylinder fuel injected engine with redundant custom ECM with one
coil per cylinder ignition and redundant fuel pump with multi port
fuel injection.
These engine and reduction drive packages are
being distributed by Tampa Bay Aero in the U.S. and are available in
Canada from Vassili Tarakanov of Air Trikes out of Pierrefonds
Quebec. The engine are stock right out of the car, and come
equipment with a bolt on reduction drive unit.
The total package, with starter, exhaust, and
alternator comes in at around 200 lbs complete, and can be purchased
separately, so that you can buy a good running used engine from an
auto recycle or rebuilder and install the drive and be flying a 3
cylinder 4 stroke auto conversion with drive for about half the
price of a 912 Rotax, and about the same price as a Rotax 582.
