From plans, building
the 601 or 701 will take between 1200 - 1500 hours to build. Standard kits
will cut this time down to 500 hours, with Quick build kits coming in at
around 250 hours. Wings in the quick build kits come complete ready to
assemble all holes are drilled! The builder has only to
cleco the wing, install fuel system then wire
and rivet it. According to David
no specialty tools are needed but an air riveter is recommended.
To finish off a kit an area of a one car garage is
required. But David now has a kit under construction in his basement, which
will require him to partially disassemble the wing to get it up his
basement stairs.
Power can be supplied by the Rotax 912 or 912 S, the 6
cylinder Jabiru 3300, various Subaru conversions, Corvair 6 cylinder air
cooled engine and the Metro Geo Suzuki engine with the Raven Redrive.
When equipped with a 912 S cruise on the CH 601 will come
in at around 130 mph. stall below 45 mph, with climb coming in at between
800 and 1200 feet per minute. Fuel burn is about 4 gallons per hour and
various fuel tank arrangements are available from 12 to 15 gallons in each
wing.
Both the 601 and 701 have standard stick and rudder
controls, with a center Yoke or Y style stick, which makes for more room in
the cabin and entrance and exit of the plane easier. A dual stick option is
available.
When equipped with 912 S the CH 701 makes an ideal float
plane or amphib float plane. Take off from water takes between 6 and 8
seconds. It is also the master of short field take offs and landings.
This is accomplished by the use of leading edge slats on
the wings which help prevent separation of the air as it goes over the
leading edge of the wing.
CAN ZAC can also supply a number of DVD's to customers,
which include engine installation, metal working and wiring to aid in
building their kits.
Options include added fuel tanks, wing baggage lockers,
nav strobe lights, landing gear and wheel kits. |
