The CGS Hawk II Classic is a high-wing,
strut-braced pusher with a choice of tailwheel or trigear.
Tandem seating and dual controls make this an intriguing
choice for flight training chores or simple cruising.
Half-span flaps really augment the low-speed control and
performance of this aircraft. |

The CGS Hawk II Classic stands 6.8' high and
is 21.4' long. It has a wingspan of 29' and a wing area of
135 sq ft. The Classic has a top speed of 90 mph, cruises
175 miles on 5 gal of fuel (optimistic, we think), and can
land/take off in some 200'/300' (we have done pretty close
to that).
The basic Hawk II Classic is a Rotax
503-powered (582 optional), 335-lb two-seater with a
pop-riveted steel/aluminum substructure and Dacron cover (Stits
cover optional; it really cleans up the bird). The Hawk II
Classic cruises 65 mph, stalls at 30 to 35 mph, and climbs
650 fpm on only 52 hp. The Hawk II Classic is a decent
performer for those on a budget and offers a payload of 435
lbs with full fuel.
The CGS Hawk II Classic flies well. Even better, the ground
handling is exceptional,
especially in the taildragger variants. The Hawk has a
set of flaps that produce a lot of drag and, when used properly, enhance the
short-field capabilities immensely. Overall control response is obedient to
aggressive (in the hands of the right pilot), the stability profile is lightly
positive (roll could use some work), and the stall characteristics are
excellent.
Kit construction is estimated at 150 hours
which is a little optimistic, but once completed and flown,
customer comments about this aircraft are fairly positive.
