Esprit DD 1 ultralight motor glider - For
those of you looking for something with a little more glide
ratio than an ultralight can supply - check out the Esprit DD
1.
The Esprit DD 1 has a 43 foot wing span, is
21 feet long with a 105 square feet of wing. |
|
|
At 254 lbs empty weight, 485 gross weight and 5
gallon fuel capacity it fits into the U.S. ultralight category!
Power is supplied by two Solo 15 hp. engines,
mounted at the rear of each wing, using belt reduction drives. The
propellers on the model flying at the show were ground adjustable
and folded back for better aerodynamics when the engines are shut
off.
Stall speed comes in at 25 mph. while the VNE is
pegged at 80 mph. Glide ratio on the Esprit DD 1 comes in at 26:1.
Take off distance at the show on a grass strip
looked to be around 250 feet, with landings requiring around 400
feet.
