Kolb Aircraft, new owner of Kolb Aircraft getting back to basics

Ultralight aviation was born out of the vision of designers and builders like, John Moody, Larry Mauro, Dick Eipper,  Chuck Slusarczyk, Holmer Kolb and others.

That vision was to make flying machines, that were safe, fun and affordable, so that more than just the rich could experience the freedom of flight! For over 30 years their vision, like a fruit tree planted in fertile soil steadily grew.

As the tree grew it produced more and more fruit, and that fruit found its way across the country, where the seeds found their way into other fertile back yard grass strips and airfields.

Then for some unknown reason someone decided to outlaw all of the safe, fun, and affordable flying machines and passed laws effectively killing off the manufacturers who were building the "fruit trees."

Well this year at Sun N Fun Bryan Melborn the new owner of Kolb Aircraft has decided that it is time to get back to planting fruit trees! Bryan is changing the focus of Kolb Aircraft and getting back to producing and promoting safe, fun affordable aircraft like the late Holmer Kolb once designed and built.

Bryan has been involved with Kolb Aircraft for over a decade now, his facility Custom Air has been producing all of the quick build kits for Kolb Aircraft. Along the way he has also won awards at Sun N Fun and Airventure for his aircraft builds. One of Bryan's first decisions as owner was to move his aircraft back into the ultralight sections at the major flyins like Sun N Fun and Airventure.

This has allowed the thousands and thousands of Kolb Aircraft owners, pilots and builders to once again talk face to face with the people that built their aircraft when they fly into the "ultralight" area. Bryan has also cut back on the models of aircraft Kolb Aircraft will be offering, limiting production to the part 103 legal FireFly, the Firestar and Firestar II and Mark III Extra.

As well he is currently in the design and development stages of a new side by side seating tri-cycle gear aircraft modeled after the Firestar II. Like all of the Kolb Aircraft line of ultralight and experimental amateurbuilt aircraft it will have folding wings for ease of storage. Kolb also has facilities for "builder assist" programs for those that want help completing their projects, and can build ready to fly FireFly ultralight aircraft.
