If you have been involved in ultralight aviation for any period of time then the name Paul Mather will be familiar to you. For seventeen years Paul has manufactured a line of ultralight, experimental and light sport aircraft from his facilities Alabama.

This year Paul was at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring Florida with his latest design. The Breese is currently being built in the experimental category and features a number of unique features.

First off the engine is powered by an HKS 700- T, twin cylinder twin turbo-charged, aircraft engine, putting out 80 HP! The engine has NO exhaust, just a straight pipe coming out of the engine. This gives it a very unique sound while flying but, is surprisingly quiet!

The engine uses about three gallons of fuel per hour, with an expect TBO of 1000 hours. The reason for using this engine is that the Breese is to provide short take off and landing capabilities. In fact the Breese is reported to be able

to take off in less than twice it's length!

This is accomplished not only the the use of the HKS 700 T engine, but by a specially designed wing, with leading edge slats, VG's along the leading edge, and large end plates on the end of the wing to help prevent wingtip vortices. The Breese also features strut bracing, with faired strut material used throughout the aircraft. The use of all these devices and tubing gives the Breese a stall of 19 mph, with a cruise of 65 mph and a climb rate approaching 1500 ft. per minute.

The front cage of pilot compartment uses extensive use of stainless steel for pilot protection and also allows for the use of the aircraft in harsher environments, such as salt water operation. The plane has a left hand throttle and a right hand stick, with trim control beside the stick. Fuel is located in fuel tanks located in each wing, with the shut off and control valve located just above the pilots head.

The instrument panel features two Dynon D10 instruments, plus the Garmin 496, and an ICOM radio. The Breese also comes equipped with a BRS parachute system.
