This is a very cool aircraft company that definitely
shows that a little guy can make good in this industry.
Preceptor's Bob Counts is an airplane guru who has brought a
number of exciting ultralight, single-place and two-place
designs to the market... and we're sure will be bringing
even more in the future. |

Bob's Stinger is basically a
parasol-winged version of the taildragger Pup series,
powered by a small, four-stroke TEC engine. With a tractor
configuration, the Stinger has a 17' fuselage, 5' height,
and a wingspan of 30.5'. The Stinger has a 122 sq ft of wing
area and a stall speed of 27 mph. With the 50-hp TEC in
the nose, the Stinger has a top speed of 90 mph and a cruise
speed of 80 mph. Takeoff requirements are only 100' while
landing needs only 50' more. No runway hogs allowed at the
Preceptor Family Ranch, let me tell you.
The Stinger has 10 gal of fuel on board and has a gross
weight of 650 lbs. The empty weight is 350 lbs, leaving 300
lbs for pilot and go-juice. The service ceiling is 12,000'.
The Stinger is a metal-and-fabric airplane employing a stout
pre-welded fuselage and metal wings. A 250-hour build time
is expected for the kit. This bird has the same fuselage as
the N-3 Pup but with a slightly wider front fuselage and
other changes made to adapt to the parasol configuration. |
